North Carolina Dance Theatre

Founded in 1970, North Carolina Dance Theatre is the oldest professional ballet company in North Carolina. It presents a mainstage series at the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts in Charlotte, and has a strong committment to education, with a year-round dance education program for ages three to adult. Through its second company, North Carolina Dance Theatre 2, the group fosters the growth of apprentice dancers.

North Carolina Dance Theatre’s education and outreach program serves more than 50,000 students annually and is recognized as one of the leading programs in the United States. Extensive curriculum-based education programs and special performances for schools supplement residencies, master classes and library programs. The program supports classroom teachers by developing curriculum resources, educator guides and by offering in-service training.

In-School Educational Programs
Educational opportunities feature a one-hour narrated performance featuring classical and contemporary excerpts from the company’s current repertory, including audience participation, and a question-and-answer session with the professional dancers. Fee: Please call to discuss.

The company supports classroom teachers by developing curriculum resources, activity guides, and teaching tools, and by offering dance-related professional development.
